Large 19th century finely carved black forest eagle, on naturalistic base. All carved from one piece of wood ,on all sides with a clever use of the base as a tree stump and original glass eye. These are either made in the black forest region of Germany or more often than not the Brienz area of Switzerland. Different being an eagle rather than a bear, this is carved from a softwood unlike all reproductions that are in hardwoods. Circa 1890.
