Carved wood Italian lantern, circa 1840. A very unusual piece with a carved shade that sits on a shaped frame. Beautifully carved linden/lime wood embellished on the top with medallions of traditional portraits. Supported with three shaped uprights, below which is another carved section with unusual finial of squatting figures. Originally it would have had a central oil lamp but is now perfect for a single bulb to hang in the centre. The whole piece hangs by three antiqued chains.
