Hutton-Clarke Antiques is pleased to offer this charming antique folk art painted blanket chest, dating to around 1850. Made from pine, it retains its original painted decoration, a wonderful survival of rural craftsmanship. The front is adorned with traditional stylised tulip motifs, a classic symbol of love and prosperity in folk art. The paintwork has developed a rich, mellow patina over time, with natural wear adding to its authenticity and character. Practical as well as decorative, this chest would have originally been used for storing textiles or treasured belongings. A delightful and evocative piece of 19th-century country furniture.
