An outstanding 19th-century table from Burma, crafted from richly grained padauk wood and offered for sale by Hutton-Clarke Antiques. This highly decorative piece is a fine example of Burmese artistry, combining detailed hand carving with powerful symbolic motifs.
The circular top features a beautifully figured central panel, framed by an intricate openwork border carved with exotic creatures and trailing flora. The deep fretwork apron adds visual depth and highlights the exceptional craftsmanship.
The central column is turned and then carved with great detail. The base terminates in three stylised tiger feet, each one full of character and energy. Three carved birds nestle playfully between them, adding a further layer of charm and decorative interest.
A truly remarkable piece, this table not only reflects the rich cultural heritage of 19th-century Burma but also stands as a superb example of skilled woodcarving in hard wood.
