A fine George III Chippendale period hanging wall shelf in mahogany, dating to around 1770. The piece features an open fretwork design to the sides with classic Gothic lattice panels and a shaped apron below the top shelf. The lower section is fitted with a row of five small drawers, each with original brass axe handles and outlined in a finely carved rope moulding, typical of mid-18th-century craftsmanship. Outer edges have a foliate carved border. The best Cuban mahogany has developed a rich, warm patina, enhancing its elegant proportions and timeless appeal.
