A handsome early 20th-century French walnut commode, made in the 18th-century manner, beautifully proportioned and richly detailed.
Constructed in solid walnut throughout, the commode features a gently bombé façade with three short drawers to the upper register over two long graduated drawers below, all framed by finely carved mouldings. The drawer fronts are adorned with rococo-inspired relief carving and fitted with ornate gilt-bronze handles and escutcheons, well modelled in the Louis XV taste.
The subtly shaped sides are centred with carved reserves and flow down to elegant scroll feet, while the shaped apron is enriched with further carving. The softly moulded top follows the curve of the carcass and displays a warm, well-developed patina.
A high-quality revival piece, combining decorative flair with solid early 20th-century craftsmanship.
