Hutton-Clarke Antiques is delighted to present this exceptionally rare and wonderfully characterful 18th-century country oak birdcage tripod table. This handsome piece of antique English country furniture is a masterclass in honest, rustic craftsmanship. It features a highly unusual, thick, octagonal top enclosed by a simple gallery border. Crucially, the whole piece retains a wonderful, good rich colour and an authentic deep-aged patination that highlights centuries of natural wear and historic grain. Crucially, this exceptional piece dates to a period much earlier than most cricket tables typically found on the market, making it an incredibly desirable find for the discerning collector. The table features a simple turned column stem that provides a beautifully clean, unpretentious silhouette. It stands on classic tripod cabriole legs, intentionally designed in the 18th century to easily find their level and provide absolute stability on uneven historic floors or flagstone surfaces.Directly beneath the heavy oak top is a fully operational, beautifully preserved four-spindle wooden "birdcage" mechanism. This traditional historic action allows the table to pivot smoothly 360 degrees and tilt vertically for space-saving storage when placed against a wall. With its striking architectural shape and beautifully weathered surface, this versatile piece makes a superb statement addition. It is perfect for curators, interior decorators, and collectors looking to bring authentic Georgian farmhouse or country house charm to an interior.
