A distinctive 19th-century Indian teak cash box with a striking pyramid-shaped lid. Crafted from solid teak and reinforced with hand-cut brass corner plates and bindings, it retains a wonderful aged patina. The bold brass strap hinge and shaped hasp lead down to the original lock plate (key absent), while the top features a substantial swing handle for carrying. These boxes were traditionally used by merchants or moneylenders for securing coins and valuables. A fine example of colonial-era craftsmanship, both practical and decorative, showing honest wear and a deep, rich colour developed over time.
